what exactly are your trying to do?

you are going to need to remount the partition it resides on RW.

have you worked in the command line or ADB before?

I want to edit to Verizon Wireless banner. I was able to do it on my droid 2. Yes i am capable of working with line commands and adb. i just dont want to brick my new phone.

are you editing the stock system or a ROM?

If on a ROM I would say go ahead and do it.
I don't recommend doing this on the stock system even if rooted.

Using SafeStrap is the best bet for flashing a ROM as it leaves your original stock system in tact, and you can go wild on the aftermarket ROM.
Edit the ROM the same way you did on the D2 (I have one also).

I recommend using root explorer with its nifty RW toggle at the top of the screen. just navigate to the file, toggle the RW/RO and there is no question about which partition to mount RW.
