Internet connection mode

Can I use the Internet connection mode on my thunderbolt with a usb cable without any additional information charges? I would just plug it in and try it but don't have a usb cable for my phone. If I can do this I will go buy a cable just want to see if I can before I spend money on a cable I have no other use for. I do not subscribe to mobile hotspot and my phone is not rooted. However I am right on the fence about rooting just haven't fully decided yet

I am not familiar with T-Bolts but Easy Tether free should work if you get a cable

I borrowed a cord and it still wants you to subscribe to mobile hotspot to use the Internet so I got mad at Verizon and said the heck with it and rooted my phone so now I am playing with learning how to download roms and what not
