Yeah -- didn't you see that in the first Droid ads? Small-print at the bottom: "Droid is a registered Trademark of Lucasfilm, LTD." Actually, I think it's been in small-print at the bottom of all the Droid ads...

Not surprising, he's got a bunch of smart lawyers and he's no dummy when it comes to making money either. Think of all of the product tie ins (dolls, toys, games, books, .....) from the Star Wars movies.

Carrie Fisher jokes that since he's trademarked her image (true) she has to give him a couple of bucks every time she looks in the mirror.

Hell, I'm surprised this forum doesn't have to pay G.L. for every person that comes here -- the logo on this site has the phrase "These are the Droids you're looking for." That's pretty close to a line from the movie...

Never noticed it there, but I noticed it while getting the free battery doors haha.

Lucas is definitely a businessman at heart. If any of you saw the new Family Guy Star Wars episode, the opening rips on Fox for being stupid enough to give Lucas all rights to merchandising, and for canceling Family Guy twice. I believe it goes something like "what kind of idiots are working for Fox, I mean cmon, they gave Lucas full merchandising rights and canceled Family Guy..TWICE! What kind of monkeys do they have running that place?" funny stuff!
