Why is it when I want to install an app I have to turn on wifi to do so?

Look through your settings for network and see if there is an option to limit the amount of data you can use. If so, turn it off. With the advent of tiered data plans some phones have the ability to restrict network data usage.

The only options is home only & automatic. I'm on verizon with unlimited data. I changed it to auto and it still does it.
