Installing a new rom

I know this question has probably been asked thousands of times. However I have searched and can't find a definite answer.
I want to install a rom. I am rooted 2.2. I have bootstrap recovery. I ran it. I have rom manager, I have made a backup. Now do I just search the roms in rom manager and install one.
I am just worried I am missing a step. It seems too easy.

If I don't like the new rom, to go back what is a guide for that. Do I just go back to my backup from rom manager?
I do also have Titanium backup as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

alright so far no info.
I was still playing around, it seems to me all I have to do is do a back up through rom manager. Then download a rom. Then install. I would guess then if I wanted to go back to whatever I want I go to manage and restore rom, and choose what I wanted to go back to.
I am just don't understand what the boostrap recovery program is for then.

Most of the more popular ROMs have threads here or elsewhere with detailed installation instructions. A lot of them require you to use Bootstrap Recovery and wipe different things (system/data/cache) and other various requirements before you install.

What ROM are you trying to install?
