Incredibly slow hotspot speeds

So I am a new convert to Android. So far so good except for using my hotspot.

I get awesome speeds when I first connect. 2 mbs download speed. After about 3 minutes of connectivity, speed drops to unusable levels. I can't.even check email on my computer at that point. Tried on a coworkers incredible that we both got the same day. Same thing.

Any suggestions?

Are you rooted or using Verizon's mobile hotspot feature?
