Those lab-masters over at iFixit have been really busy lately with a slew of smart device launches. Their latest victim for the teardown dissection is the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch. Surprisingly, it comes away from the operation with an impressive 8 out of 10 repairability score. Apparently, the fused display, which is glued to the front of the device, was the only thing keeping it from a perfect 10 out of 10.

They had high praise for it, especially the easy to remove watch band, and how easy it is to open. Once inside they shared an overview of its guts. Here's a breakdown,

  • Samsung KMF5X0005M (likely DRAM package with 1 GHz dual-core CPU layered beneath)
  • Motorola MPS14X 60X5V3 1410WeC
  • Maxim Integrated MAX77836 (likely micro-USB interface controller and Li+ battery charger)
  • STMicroelectronics 32F401B 32 bit ARM Cortex MCU
  • 0225E8 E225B4
  • BCD Semiconductor Y831 audio codec
  • Samsung MP65M gyroscope
