ICS send text via Bluetooth

Have Razr Maxx with ICS update. Want to be able to send text via Bluetooth hands-free. Manual from Verizon is not consistent with phone’s operation (phone requires voice cmd “Message to” instead of “Send text to” as manual states). When I use “Message to John Doe mobile 1? voice cmd, it brings up the (keyboard) composition screen — requiring me to physically hit the mic button before I can enter message via voice. No good if I’m driving. This happens even if I use cmd like “Message to John Doe mobile 1 message this is a test”. No idea at this point how to resolve — anyone got thoughts?
