Icons/Moving to folders/Deleting

I made a folder on the screen to the left of the main screen. I placed several GPS apparently in it.
I went back to screen where the original icons were dragged from. This page was situated on the screen accessed by pressing the arrow at the bottom of the main screen.
I tried to drag them to the trash can. I can drag them to the can, but not delete them. Since they are in a folder, I just wanted to clear up the space for other icon, since duplicates were uneccessary.
Thanks for any replies

You can't remove things from the application drawer,
the arrow that slides a screen up.

You can download PandaHome, a home screen replacement,
and it gives you the ability to hide and unhide apps in the app drawer.
