I just wanna make a call!

And tether my Motorla cliq. I hope I'm in the right place... either way -- I can't seem to find simple instructions on what "root"ing and "tethering" is or how to do them.

What I'd like is to use my Cliq as a wifi hotspot, or equivalent. Any and all comments appreciated.

I don't think the Cliq can do wifi tethering... I am sure you could use Easytether or PDA Net and USB tether.
