my dilemma is the the maxx is a bit big for me, i love this phone like no other what do you all suggest for me if i had to get a new phone on VZ.

Get the iPhone?

I say that honestly. If 4.3" is too big for you, then you may think the same thing about a phone with a 4" screen. You may not, but .3" really isn't a huge difference. All of the LTE phones currently on Verizon are 4" or larger, and honestly, none of the 4" models are really compelling (although a case could be made for the Droid 4). The upcoming Incredible 4G will be the best LTE phone with a 4" screen once it launches, but there's no set release date yet. And even then, it's specs are pretty middle of the road. So, if you want something smaller, and you want to stick with LTE, you'll have make due with a sub-par phone if you get one now. That includes sub-par battery life. If you want a smaller phone with good battery life, the iPhone honestly might be your best bet. If you don't want the iPhone, you're ok with a 4" screen, and you can wait until whenever it's released, consider the Incredible 4G.

I suggest you go to a Verizon store and try out phones so you don't run into the problem of getting a phone you don't like would be the first thing to do imho

Verizon has a good lineup of 4G phones so get what feels comfortable to you

The problem there is that both of those phones are just as big, if not bigger than the MAXX. If the OP thinks the MAXX is too big, then those phones will feel even bigger. The Nexus has a bigger screen and is slightly thicker. The Rezound has a screen that's the same size, and it's much thicker. That's why I was saying if the MAXX is too big, there really aren't any other seriously compelling LTE phones on Verizon with a smaller screen size. The Droid 4 comes the closest right now, with the Incredible 4G being a possibility in the near future.

But you're right about going into the store and trying them out. That's something everyone should do unless they know for sure they'll like the size and feel of a phone based on past experiences. Maybe the increased thinness of the regular RAZR would make a difference once the OP tries it out. The thinner a phone is, the easier it becomes to reach parts of a larger screen. If the RAZR doesn't work, the options are very limiting if someone wants a smaller screen.

Edit: jeff70, you removed your line about the Nexus and the Rezound being good options in the few minutes between when I first read your response and when I actually clicked reply to start typing. I should have noticed it in the quoted text while I was typing. That makes the first part of my response appear to make no sense. :)

lol sry I was on my phone and was editing with tapatalk and screwed up and hit the wrong button, I did agree with everything you said though :)

The Razr line has extremely wide Bezels that make the phone feel really big. Even my old Droid X which had the exact same screen size was easier to hold with one hand than the Razr. So don't feel like you have to sacrifice screen size to get a more comfortable phone. Go to the store and examine a few phones, then buy it online from Verizon to avoid any rebate hassles.

I had the Rezound for awhile, and out of all of the phones currently on Verizon, it does feel the best in hand. Second best camera to the iPhone 4S. But the best all around phone on Verizon right now is still the MAXX.
