HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

No disrespect intended here but this smells eerily similar to the story where people were checking the site like mad looking for an update to the release of the inc 2. Sorry, but after that mess, I think I will take this story with a grain of salt. A bit hard for me to swallow a tech guy, who has no access to a file because he is in a car for the weekend. I can take my whole company's network down while camping in the middle of nowhere...retrieving a file? Really? Really?

It seems like Miami's information on this phone always has "proof coming soon! Miami can't get to his computer" and turns out to be nothing like reality.

Unless nobody told me when the Thunderbolt came out on Nov 23...in black...with a 1.2Ghz processor...and the kickstand from early prototypes removed...

Btw called Best Buy and they confirmed they're doing pre orders tomorrow/sunday for the Thunderbolt. No official word on when it will be released though.

Phone got pushed back. I'm sick of all this, we all just want the ****ing phone, and we are all sick of these "leaks" from now on they should only release official dates. I'm very pissed, anyone with me when I say the iphone on verizon is the worst thing to happen to android users? I mean, we made vzw great, not the flipping iphone, they were fine without out, and so were we and now our return policy is changed, upgrade dates, release dates, 3g heavy usage...all changed because of this freaking iphone.

Amen. I frequently associate Wal Mart with Apple. They both ruin things, like small business and cell carriers. And they both are EVERYWHERE. Everyone has a f***ing iPhone, I remember when it was cool to have an iPhone (first year or so).

So, I've been watching this thread for a while and figured I'd register to throw in my two cents.

Just called my local BB store and talked to a guy in the mobile phone department. I told him that I had seen that the HTC Thunderbolt might be available for pre-order tomorrow, and wanted to know if he knew what time the pre-orders would start. He said that he had heard that too, but that unless there was anything official, he wasn't allowed to say anything.

I asked him a few other questions, and then before I got off the phone I said "so if I were in the store now and asked you to wink if the Thunderbolt was going to be available for pre-order tomorrow, would you wink?"

He laughed, and then said "yeah, yeah I would."

Take it how you will, but just figured I'd share.

hahahahahaha niceeeeee!

I know this is a little off topic but I read an article saying that the Thunderbolt and Samsung's LTE phone would be released on the same day. Anyone know if there is any truth to this? Also I'm having a hard time deciding between the two still but the specs on the Samsung all seem equal or better. The super amoled display, hdmi port, etc. Only thing I'm concerned about is how quickly they'll get updates out for it. Any input?

I would NEVER get a Samsung phone. Just look at the Fascinate, it's still on Eclair, or maybe it JUST NOW got Froyo? Either way, they are bad with updating phones. HTC has Sense and Sync, Motorola has Blur, Samsung has.... a pretty bad UI in my opinion.

But Verizon has repeatedly said the Thunderbolt is the first LTE phone, so I doubt a Samsung 4G phone will come out the same day as the TB, especially since there has been no "speculation" or threads about such a thing.

My local BB guy on the phone was straight up about it today, I asked him if it was available to order tomorrow and he said yes, for 50 dollars you can place a pre order. Also in my other questions he confirmed everything we all know so far. There isn't a date for sale yet, BB doesn't do one year contracts and you can purchase the phone "off contract" even through a pre order. No mystery in my local store :-)

Agreed. My Droid X is having MADDENING rebooting issues, and the locked down bootloader is really, really lame. So Motorola is not an option for me going forward.

Samsung doesn't even know what Froyo is... they're so behind the curve. Plus, Touchwiz is ugly and they have some weird hardware choices, I think.

LG phones just plain suck... which only leaves HTC, who makes quality, (mostly) unlocked phones that CAN be rooted/hacked properly, and they have Sense which provides the best "Stock" experience outside of truly stock Android 2.2.1/2.3.

HTC has been stepping up their game in terms of build quality lately, too. I'm very impressed with the Desire HD/Z lines of phones.

Wont surprise me if they do pre orders tomorrow. We should hear everything tomorrow if it all goes well. I know Verizon is playing Thunderbolt ads during the Super Bowl, so it might tell us somethings.

wait how are they doing pre-orders when we don't know 4g prices yet? Isn't the Thunderbolt a 4g phone. I know it can do 3g but will they allow you to keep your 3g plan?

They will probably say pricing tomorrow. If they don't say pricing and pre orders start, it's safe to assume the pricing will stay the same.
