HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

I don't know why everyone keeps thinking Apple's lawyers have something to do with it. Simply doesn't make sense, on multiple levels, for VZW to launch two devices so close together.
apple wants a 2 week quiet period to focus the spotlight on the 3g iphone. There's no question that VZW had to agree to it as well (they saw $$). so to say that its apple's lawyers is really saying there is probably a contract between VZW and Apple to secure a number of things, one of which is a 14 day quiet period during which VZW agrees not to introduce a 4G device that outshines the 3G iphone.
On top of that, you have to go 14 days from launch weekend, because plenty of sales continue in over those 4 days. That points to the 28th.

could be/ wouldn't surprise me. I just think the main motivation is that VZW is contractually bound to let a certain number of days expire after ihype day before they announce anything better. VZW's total silence on this point, along with leaks and rumors from the retail channel, is consistent with this theory.

and this it not to say that VZW has no interest in promoting the iphone. I think it was a joint agreement, and given that Apple is what Apple does, it just makes sense. This is a company that tried to patent the mouse user interface, remember, even though the idea came from xerox.

Snip/
subsidized price as we all know is $350....he said there will be a $140 rebate for a 2 year contract and a $70 rebate for 1 year. /Snip

As in mail in rebate? I thought they were stopping those on devices over $150.

I thought so too, but I was recently informed in another thread that they went back to mail-in rebates, the policy of instant rebates was temporary and has expired (on 2/14 I think). So if that person is to be believed, the price will be $210 on a 2-year contract, and $280 on a 1-year, not too shabby. I'll believe it when I see it for myself though.

What the guy told me about the rebate was that he had not heard yet if it was immediate or mail-in, but said that it very well could be a mail-in. Possibly because the logistics of this launch were approved before the decision to get rid of MIRs.

This may or may not be the place for this question...but here goes.

I know the TB is gonna have an 8mp camera, but does anyone know if it's as fast as the iPhones? Or is it a PoS like the Eris?

I just messed w/ the camera on the iPhone the other day and was blown away that you could essentially take pics as quickly as you could hit the button. The camera on the Eris is a joke.
Now, I don't buy the phone for the camera (but I do appreciate my toys), and I love the Sense UI and functionality of the Droid OS in general, but I'm curious how the camera on the TB will compare? I wonder if the camera on the EVO is a fair test?

thanks...

The camera on the EVO (8MP) is a step up from the camera on the Eris (5MP), and the camera on the ThunderBolt (2nd gen. 8MP) is a step up from the camera on the EVO. The TB's camera supposedly has better low light and motion detection than the EVO according to a recent review. You can search on YouTube for a review to see how quickly it snaps pictures. It will be a really good camera for a phone, nothing like your Eris.

You know it's funny, lots of people seem to think anything HTC is bad because of the Eris, which yes, was an awful phone, but what about the Incredible and then the EVO that came out AFTER the Eris? The Eris has ZERO to do with the Thunderbolt, and the 'Bolt is going to crush the iphone in many comparisons. The Thunderbolt is better than the EVO in many comparisons also, just watch the wirefly video.

Thank goodness...I am happy to hear that. I will check out yt to see speeds. I honestly avoid using the cam on the Eris, it's so frustrating. I did try to use some 3rd party apps, which helped, but I was pi$$ed when I saw how the iPod touch / iPhone snapped 'em. That's the only thing I like on the Apple vs. the Droid's I've seen / used.

Totally agree. Those who say the TB is basically the EVO really should watch the wirefly video. Aside from the same basic form factor, the TB is a MUCH refined system and better in just about every way. The processor speed difference is incredible (pun kinda intended).

Quick question, I'm still under contract one my primary line. However two of my internet cards are up for renew. I don't see the need to renew them at all since I don't use them where I live, and when I travel I don't have 4G anyway. Can BestBuy do those upgrades from another line? I don't want to pre-order and find out BestBuy wants me to pay $700 when a VZW store can do $250
