HTC had a bid announcement this morning. They officially took the wraps off their new "Uh Oh Protection" Service for the HTC One M9. This new protection plan is included at no extra charge when you purchase a new HTC One M9 and applies during the first year of ownership. HTC will replace your One M9 one time for FREE if you crack the screen, drop it in a toilet or want to switch carriers. It gets even better. If you don't use the "Uh Oh Protection" within that first year, HTC will give you $100 credit toward a future HTC One product.

This new built-in protection plan takes things to a whole new level beyond HTC's already impressive HTC Advantage program from the past. The fact that this new "Uh Oh" plan will even replace your phone once if you decide you want to switch from one carrier to another is very impressive.

Here's a video below with some additional detail on the plan from HTC,

There are some stipulations of course. If you need to get your HTC One M9 replaced under this program, you will need to call (866)449-8358 and give them details about your device and situation. They will also require you to have a $299 hold put on your credit card until HTC gets the damaged phone in the mail from you. AT that time, HTC will overnight you a replacement phone. (Alternatively to the $299 hold, you can send them the damaged phone first and wait, if you are able to do that).

For more details, here is HTC's landing page on the subject: HTC Uh-Oh Protection HTC United States

Alternatively, HTC will be holding a Live Event in about 5 minutes from the time of this post (11am CT) to share all the details on this incredible new service. Here's the link: HTC Uh-Oh Teaser HTC United States

Looks like the M8 is covered as well..

Between this and the free Droid Turbo screen replacement, it's a nice development. For starters, it saves the hassle and cost of putting a cover on already [IMO] oversized phones. Then it frees people from being robbed on the insurance plans.

The $100 off on your next HTC device if you don't use the warranty is a really nice customer retention program. I dare say it's brilliant Of course, they may just be marking up the price to include the typical $8/month insurance (which would be just evil). And it's only for 12 months, but if you lose/bust your phone after 12 months most people aren't broken-up (no pun intended) over upgrading.

But mainly it tells us these phones are getting more and more rugged. Hats off to HTC for coming up with an innovative customer value/incentive plan.

Are they going to honor the $100 if their next device is delayed beyond the 12 month refresh?

Right. Your average "on contract" customer who isn't on an edge plan of some sort isn't going to upgrade in a year, but I suppose it's a good start.
