The virtual reality market place is about to get very competitive. For a while we have only really had a few viable options for Virtual Reality. If you want a super cheap experience you can simply use Google Cardboard or any of hundreds of third party options based on Google cardboard specs (you get what you pay for), Samsung Gear VR which uses your cell phone's screen and is only $100, and then you have expensive options like the Oculus Rift.

According to Microsoft companies including HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, and Acer will be working on their own VR headsets to go along with your PC. The cost will be middle of the road at $299. The headsets will include six degrees of freedom sensors. These VR headsets will make high quality Virtual Reality accessible to the masses and the competition may drive down prices overall. Once more consumers have their hands on such devices developers will have more incentive to develop for the platform. This could be just the boost that Virtual Reality needs!
