How to update gmail manually with lithium mod froyo, droid 1

I have lithium mod froyo on my droid 1 and wanted to update to the updated gmail app, but the update said "manual update is required". When this happened with voice search I had to manually remove the app but have no clue how to remove gmail. Any help is welcomed.
