How to tell what crashed your droid?

My D2 occasionally crashes and restarts and it always seems like I am doing something different each time, is there a way or an app that will tell you why this happened? like something that keeps a log of what over burdened the system to the point of collapse?

Unfortunately, I am not rooted, I am running stock... I haven't had the time or patience to go through the process of finding the perfect rom for my phone. I also have the D2, so the no nandroid thing always made me weary...
