How to manually lock screen (with password)

I can't for the life of me find out how to manually lock the screen with a password.

I have the phone connected with corporate sync. there is a policy that requires a pin and a timeout period. the lock comes up fine after the specified timeout period, but i couldn't find a way to lock it before that.

when the screen turns off, the phone is "locked" but not with the pin.

anyone know how to manually lock it?

use the visual lock

This solution is not pin oriented, but the android comes with a visual lock system in settings....security.

I have the same issue. My BB was awesome in this regard. Security on Android is very weak.
