How to get email on the front

OK, so that worked... Just add an email account to your default app, then make a shortcut to it; the icon will show account's name.

Does it function the same way the regular gmail app does? Or do you lose something by using a gmail account in the standard email setup?

mail will then come through IMAP so I believe it is pulled not pushed, but you can set it to check every 5 minutes. Other than that, it opens to the inbox and you can do whatever the default client lets you.
