How to Clear Text in Text box

When I try texting certain people from my HTC Thunderbolt, the text field already has a partial text message that was part of a draft or failed message from many days ago. I can't get this message to clear so that I have a blank text field when I go to send a message. I can't stand having to delete this text everytime I want to send a new message. Can anyone tell me how to clear this old text for good. I've tried restarging the phone and sending the text many times to no avail.

Go into the drafts folder and delete any drafts that are in there.

If you delete the contact then re-add them it will go away.
