How to boot into recovery

On my OG Droid I held X until I wound up in clockwork. Now on the thunderbolt theres no keyboard. What do I do?

Hold down the Volume Down as you boot. Continue to hold it down until you get to a bootloader screen. Choose recovery using the volume rocker and then press the power on button to select. That should get you into Clockwork. I had to search for this too, I am also coming from the good ol OG Droid.:)

when i do that, since i did the 3 step root method, it instantly goes into checking the pg.... file. how should i fix this?

EDIT: nevermind, stuck the sd card into the comp and deleted the file. im fine now, thanks rneal_ra

Move the file somewhere other than your SD root. When it doesn't find one, it'll return to the main menu. Booting into recovery is literally the only thing I use ROM Manager for :)
