How to allow a media player to be a default?

I go to a site to listen to music/radio. It is not live it is archived stuff, but when I click it on my phone it only gives me a few choices of things to choose from to use as a media player such as xiia, stream furious, and something else I downloaded. I downloaded other apps I wanna try to use but it doesn't give me the option. So, how can I choose? Like on a pc when it asks "open with".

I've been researching this too and haven't found an answer.

I like Poweramp and would like to use it instead of the stock music player in all cases, Bluetooth, etc.

Try menu-->settings-->applications-->manage applications-->

Find and select the stock music app then select clear defaults. The next time you open a music app from the market it should ask if you want to make it your default player.
