How does tablet pricing work?

I'm pretty set on an ipad, basically because I already have a great android phone but I want an ipad for school and games.

But I've noticed that xooms can be bought on contract and ipads cant... I don't really understand how their pricing work...I saw month to month on there...I dont like the sound of paying month to month.

huh? Month to month is for a data plan. I've never checked but does vzw have a cel enabled ipad? That might be the difference.

Maybe, I havent had an access to a computer so I may have missed something since I've been on my phone
