but yea half press is to focus and full will take the pic

It is a two stage button. It must be pressed all the way down to open them camera app.

Do NOT feel bad... I had the same problem and now that I see what it was, I understand. I think it is because of the case I got - I really have to press down... but now I know - thank goodness, I was starting to think I was crazy!
