In short, no, tethering is not covered in your data plan. Tethering costs extra (and I think won't be officially available till next year). However, if you don't go nuts with it it is doubtful Verizon will ever know.
Well... that depends on what OS. Is on the pc. If it is windows or mac then pdanet will work with usb, but if you have linux then pdanet only works with bluetooth dun, which is difficult to set up and slow. I have found that Proxoid or Azilink are better for linux tethering via usb.
I am currently tethering using pdanet. I paid $30 so I have it forever. It works pretty well, other than cuts out when I get a phone call or text, but then comes right back on.

I paid a one time fee of $30 for life afaik... Of course I still pay the $24/month for internet acces on my phone.
If I had researched more there is probably a free tethering service out there, but I just wanted to be legit... or semi legit, because its against verizon... lol.
