How do you do a factory reset?

My current phone was acting wonky so I went to the store to talk to Vz. They are sending me a brand new phone on the 22nd as a replacement. So before I get the new phone I want to do a reset on my current one so all my personal data gets wiped. So the question is how do you do one?

From any one of oyur home screens, press the hard menu button on your phone, select "settings", then "privacy, & finally "factory data reset".

If you are going to send your memory card back with the X, format the card to erase the contents.

Menu, Settings, SD card and phone storage, unmount SD card, format card. Otherwise, swap the memory cards if the new phone comes with one before you send it back.

Be aware that a corrupted memory card can cause all sorts of problems, so consider that if your new phone has the same or similar problems if you transferred the old card to the replacement phone.
