how do I?

I want to turn mp3 ringtones that I download into ringtones on the phone. I can not figure out how to make this happen. Also can not get them to download from the message that is sent.

You need to download an app to do this.
I used ringdroid.

you can make any MP3 a ringtone/notification/or alarm sound by making a folder on your SD card called media and inside of that folder three more folders named ringtones, notifications, and alarms

Then you can drop the MP3 file you would like to use in it's respected folder, it will then show up in the pop-up list with the rest of your stock ringtones/notifications/and alarms

I would also highly suggest RingDroid free from the Market for making your own ringtones out of your MP3 library
