How do i root my droid 2.2.1 frg83d

You used the incorrect file to flash recovery.

That was for 2.01 I believe.

You will have to sbf the frg22d full sbf onto your phone and start over.

From Pete Alfonso's website: http://androidoverdrive.com/pete/OEM/VZW_A855_FRG22D_QSC6085BP_C_01.43.01P_SW_UPDATE.sbf

This is the *FULL* FRG22D sbf. You will need to use this to flash back to FRG22D and let your phone upgrade to FRG83D and start all over...

This should get you to a stable state where you can breathe for a little while.

**MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS AT LEAST 50% CHARGED BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT THIS... IF POSSIBLE, 100%**

edit: and fwiw the Droid 1 is pretty dang hard to *actually* BRICK...so, it's easier said than done... but try not to panic :)

hard not to panic. i have done a factory reset, lost all of my information, settings.... basically everything.and i cannot get this thing to charge.

How much battery do you have? Or do you have a battery of someone you could borrow from someone else??

Your settings, contacts and apps will be backed up via your Google account, and your sdcard contents should be untouched. So things like pictures and videos are stored on your sdcard, so those should be fine. Moto/Google tries to minimize the info stored on the phone itself, for situations such as this when it's impossible to keep all your data.

If you can find a way to get a charged battery or to charge yours to a reasonable level, you can flash back using the full sbf I linked to from Pete Alfonso's website. You can go ahead and dl it now if you want to have it ready.

There are methods to get your phone back, EVEN if you can't charge it, using a USB cable. I'm just not comfortable walking you through that since I've never done it myself. That's where the RS folks really come in handy. Hopefully we can get some love on this thread soon.

...did you send cerealkiller a message to have this moved into the RS section?

ESE81 is 2.1. That recovery flashed a 2.1 kernel onto your phone. That's the problem. You'll have to flash a new kernel or a whole new ROM onto your phone. SBFing back to stock will work, but... Well, this is why you make a backup as soon as you've put SPRecovery onto your phone. Can you boot into recovery? If not, your phone is pretty messed up and you'll have to start over.

yes, i asked that it be moved. I know the info is still there. I just hate setting my phone up and getting it the way i like it. and i am hoping that i can get it back up and running. thanks for all your help. damn, i should have known it was the wrong file. I can't believe how many people are willing to help with this stuff. you guys are unbelievable. On a side note, i do have a spare battery at home. i am going to try to charge it up when i get off of work and run the file you linked. we'll see if that works.

If you SBF it you'll be in out-of-the-box stock state. If you can get into recovery and it's not stock then you can still save your phone from going that route, just so long as you made a backup as soon as you booted into recovery to install the update.zip.

Just out of curiosity, what guide were you following to root your Droid?

Here is a great guide to use
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/74028-root-droid-1-regardless-os-version.html
I've rooted a handful of droids using this and it works perfectly.

This is the link i followed. then when finished, and successfully working, i tried to flash an SPRecovery... but apparently I used the 2.1 instead of the 2.2.1 because i am way to new at this. I don't have a recovery to fall back on. Ill have to start from scratch. The link that was provided above is already downloading. i can get to the boot menu, just need a battery with some sort of charge. My computer isn't even recognizing the phone as a drive, so that may be a problem. but i am going to give it a shot when i get off of work.

It's my pleasure to help! The ROMs and hacks are great, but the thing that makes DF a real community is its members' willingness to help others :)

You're in very capable fingers (...keyboard...get it? lol) with fb.

@fb: Thanks for the quick reply! Im glad I could do my part :) and as always thanks for helping!

Before you get worried or scared don't worry you are ok. As long as you can boot into recovery you are fine.

Follow this:

1. Grab Project Elite (or any other ROM for that matter) but PE will work. DOWNLOAD IT HERE

2. boot your phone into recovery (power button and X) and plug into usb

3. in recovery choose mount options/enable mass storage mode

4. Place Project Elite on the root of the sd card AND rename it update.zip or just update if on Windows7

5. Turn off mass storage and disconnect device from usb.

6. wipe data and cache

7. choose install

8. allow update.zip

9. install update.zip (depracated)

10. reboot

You will be up and running

I went through the same exact issue when i was flashing different recoveries. I just reflashed SPRecovery and did what I just posted and I was up and running again.

No need to SBF all the way back unless you want to go the long route

*moved to RS area for you as requested

thanks to ck and fb for helping out -- hopefully we'll hear back soon whether or not this stuff did the trick.

you guys rock :) i sure am glad i haven't needed your help...yet! lol

thanks for the help! sorry i didn't get to all of this last night. I did as you instructed, and the phone is on, but the p.e. screen flash is looping on my phone after reboot. what do you think?

it's cool... did you do step #6 in ck's post? (Wipe data and cache). That is usually the cause of the bootloop that occurs on the bootanimation.

Another possibility is the speed of PE. It's OC'ed to 1100mhz (1.1ghz) interactive...(fast!). If you wiped data And cache, try the same instructions using bugless beast. His is only OC'ed to 800 by default and uses the stock kernel. Not all droids can handle the speed of PE. It is a great ROM tho and I absolutely recommend it once you're all set.

I'll get a link real quick for BB....
