How Do I Delete My Current Browser?

I have a Droid X2 and I want to completely delete the installed browser and use one that I've installed myself. How in the world do I go about doing that??
Thanks!!

The only way to do that is to be rooted but i wouldn't recommend it since many other actions on the phone are dependent on the stock browser to run.

Welcome to the site. Just be very, very careful if you decide to root your phone. Read everything you can about the process and make certain you are sure of the steps you would be taking. DancingNexus

Rooting is how you get full access to your phone. It's the equivalent of clicking on My Computer and seeing everything on your computer and being able to modify its contents.

Rooting is not recommended by any carrier but can be done safely with some benefits.

I don't think anyone would recommend removing the stock browser but you could freeze it with root. Freezing would prevent it or any of its processes from ever running.

If you don't root you can simply select your browser as the default whenever the phone asks you which one you want to use. Just check the box for making it your default and pick the browser you want.

Here's the situation I'm dealing with: my husband has had an addiction since he was 10 years old, due to the environment he was raised in. He has recently been struggling more than usual and has asked me for help. I know that most people view us as strange, since this kind of stuff is considered very normal in this day and age. But for us, it's not. And when my husband asks me for help, I know he is serious and I want to do everything I can to protect him, our kids and our marriage. He has found certain apps in the android market and even a safe web browser, but these do nothing to stop things from showing up in the regular browser. Getting a regular phone is not really an option, since he needs to be able to access his email for work. So, if I need to root his phone, I'll gladly do it. I just need instructions on how to do it safely. Thanks for your help.

what other apps or actions would be affected?

The other apps/functions that will be affected will be the Google search widget, maps/navigation, youtube, and if i'm not mistaken market/play also is dependent on the stock browser.

All of this is going off memory as i don't have access to a android phone or tablet at the time to test it out. I most likely wont be able to get my hands on a android device until Monday or Tuesday to test this out for sure.

net nanny

I also joined this website to reply to this thread. i have had a problem with porn for over half of my life now and my wife and i have installed a program called net nanny to my phone. it has its own browser where you can set up what i can view. it blocks the normal Web browser and can't be closed by any task manners. it has worked well and i would recommend checking it out.

net nanny. yeah, we bought a zillion licenses of it for PC back in '97 or '98 for bundling on a new user CD (or floppies EVEN) for a small ISP (dial-up) that I used to work for, it was darn good then and its evolved and survived for 13 years or so since. good luck with your problem. if you have the ability to not try to social engineer the situation to have admin access to net nanny you're doing better than you think, it seems.

Hi Kellerzoo,
Could you please tell me which was the solution to your problem? I'm undergoing the same situation and would like to solve.
Thanks

Without knowing a lot of details the best advice I can give is install an app locking app. With that you can control which apps can be accessed. You can block the stock browser and the play store and only allow access to your approved browsers.
