How can I use my Droid X2 without Verizon service?

Hi,

I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I tried searching but I couldn't find anything relevant.

I got a Droid X2 from my brother in law (he upgraded). I would like to use the phone just for email and games but without Verizon service. So far all I'm able to get the phone to do is go to google.com in the browser. If I try to go to any other sites it times out. I can't setup my Google account in Settings -> Accounts. I get an error about the phone not being provisioned for data service.

I've tried turning off all the settings under Settings -> Battery & data manager -> Data delivery. I do have my Wi-Fi connection setup (it does work fine with other devices). I've rebooted and pulled the battery too.

I'm hoping that I'm just missing something and that this phone isn't useless without service.

Any help would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Well, it started working. I don't know why, but the phone will now let me put it in airplane mode and turn on Wi-Fi. I had tried that before with no luck.
