How and should I root my X

I have had my droid for awhile now and I keep hearing and reading about rooting 2 Questions. How do you root. And once rooted. What can I do over and above factory? Thanks in advance

Root will let you do many things, wireless tether is probably the greatest feature. You can explore the forums to see all the things you can do.

To root download Z4Root. It is no longer in the market bu if you google Z4Root download you will find it. Download it you SD card and install the program. Once installed open it and cluck Root. The app will do it all, phone will reboot and you will be rooted.

You will void tor vzw warranty, however if you unroot should you need phone service then you should not have a problem bc vzw will not see u r rooted. Z4 will unroot u. When you get into modifying your phones with and roms, kernals and overclocking then there is the possibilty of bricking your phone, however that is remote. This is my second android phone and I rooted both with no issues.

So what are roms kernals and overclocking? So z4 can root and unroot my phone?

Roms will compketly modify the look and feel of your phone. Several developers create rooms for the droid x. If you search the forums under droid hacks you will find out more about them. Kernels adjust your CPU speed / performance which allows you to over clock your droid x. There are several different kernels and you need to see what works best on your phone as some can send your phone into boot loop.

Z4 will root your phone and I think it un roots too but cannot be sure as I never un rooted. Again you can search this forum for un root instructions and I have heard it is a pretty easy process.

When I was newbie someone walked me through my questions on the phone. If you would like me to do this pm me your number.

I will PM u my number in a few. Getting kids dinner right. Now. A few more ?s if you don't mind. When I download z4 does it root right away. Once I root will I see a difference. Where can I find roms and kernals? Am I right in saying the only things about rooted are the roms and kernals?

No prob. If you download and install Z4 it will not root the phone until you open the app and click root.

There will be no difference after you root other than you have access to the root directory and can download and use apps that require root...ie wireless tether.

Rooms can be found on on this site, rom manager which is an app, team black hat which is an app, as well as maybe other places. Kernels can also be found in these places. However, if younplan to flash a rom and kernels then you need to really understand what u are doing and download certain apps like rom manager and droid bootstrap recovery so you can make back ups in case you have a problem.

z4root is supposed to unroot your phone as well the same way launch the app and click unroot. But I have only read this and not tried it. Rooted and hope to never go back.
