How 2 remove (delete) dupicate icons?

I am assuming that in learning to use my Galaxy S3 that I have downloaded (?) & installed several programs more than once which manifest as duplicates of the same icon on different pages of my S3.
Pls. advise as to how 2 remove one or both of the same icons.
I have so many icons now that it is troubling when I am trying 2 quickly locate calendar or S voice icons when needed amidst the multitude.

Press and hold the icon you want to remove. The Apps icon in the lower right-hand corner will turn into a red trashcan. Drag the icon to the trashcan and let it go. This will remove the icon from the screen, but will not uninstall the app. You can do something similar on pretty much any Android phone.
