Is there a home launcher which I can still use the stock looking Motorola ics icons?

Mmm. Idk about Apex.
Nova does real well for me since it keeps the home very close to stock.
Best bet is to give them both a run to see how they work for you.

So I guess apex launcher won't allow you to drag Widgets from your app drawer to the home screen

I recently been hearing about this detail.
For my Nexus 7, I am using Nova Prime(paid version of Nova) and it does have this feature.

Yea its saying I need to root permission but I don't want to root my phone.

I agree, that's why I've usually ended up going back to stock. You can adds them manually. What is the reason(s) you want a launcher?

Just want to try something different and different customization but it looks like I might go back to stock.

Nova does not require root to add widgets from your app drawer. I'm not rooted on my Nexus 7. And I can do it.
