I just got my droid X and I us my back up assistants to ass my contact but it is telling me that they are read only and wont let me edit them? How do I change the read only. Thanks

I'm not understanding what application you are using to modify your contacts. Can you please tell me.

To Mike, I think he is talking about the back up that is from Verizon and he is trying to get them from his old phone using that. That is just my guess. I am not clear about what you are trying to do. Please give more info.
