Hi i just got my droid eris about to week ago and i love it.I read about rooting my phone i've read soooo many threads about rooting im abit confused.I really want to root my phone and have 2.1 but i want to be able to go back to the 1.5 if i need to i know i'll love the 2.1 im sick of waiting for the ota 2.1.So alittle help would be awsome.

That's should help and plus if u want when u get the 2.1 rom if u don't like it just return the phone, and btw I downloaded the 2.1 on my sisters eris and she absoluteely loves it

I went with the non-root update and it's working great. The only issue I have is that protected apps don't appear in the market place. Pretty sure this will be sorted once the OTA finally gets out. Not a huge issue for me, but a few apps I had on 1.5 aren't available to me anymore.
