HELP! Whats wrong with my phone??

When i receive or send messages an old message that i've deleted forever ago pops up in my status bar. When i go to click it, it takes me to my messages but just says "loading" and will never bring it up. I have tried deleting all of my messages again, and turning my phone off, and back on. I'm tired of seeing the message being in my status bar. Would resetting my phone help? If so, how would i go about doing that? And, is there a way to do it without deleting the pictures and music saved on the phone, not the SD card. Can someone please help?! ASAP.

try changing the date messages are kept on the affected email account.
1.go the the email.
2. click the menu button
3. click more
4. then settings
5. click Send and Receive
6. then Download options. Change it so it doesn't include the offending email.
