Help! Turning off notifications sounds

Is there a way to turn off the sounds for notifications without turning off the ringtones? I don't see any options under Settings for No Notification sounds.

The only dropdown I have under Settings--Notifications is Notification ringtone. I just found the notification sound volume control under Settings--Volume. I'll give that a try. Thanks.

Ok maybe wrong thread for my? The first time I had an app from the market contact my phone kinda I think? Lol a weird red star in my notification bar it said my phone is running to slow! I click it and takes me to the market to download a speed up my phone app! Was a little weird! Lol
