Help! Phone's having e-mail problems and "low memory"

Hey guys. Today my phone decided to throw me a nice f u and stopped syncing my e-mails. I use the g-mail app. It won't notify me of new e-mails, and I can't see them, but when i go in at the top it says i have whatever the amount of new e-mails. Why won't it sync? is it something to do with it telling me i have low memory? by this i mean its telling me i have low application data space, yet for some reason I have plenty of space? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Are you rooted? A lot of unrooted users have found that a factory reset solves the low on space problem.

Try clearing your applications' caches, you may find that an app or two is holding on to a lot of saved data.
