Help me rescue a friend's phone

I didn't know this until the other day but apparently I'm the "Phone Guy" where I work. Anyway my buddy has a Droid Incredible that he's been having some rebooting issues with. He tried to take it back to VZW but the DI is on back order for the next month or so and he's not sure if he wants the moto droid. So he's out of a phone for now.

I thought this would be an easy fix so I booted into recovery and wiped his data and cache partitions and tried to reflash the update.zip file that was already stored in the phone in the restore folder.

The phone wiped both partitions fine but when I tried to reflash it I got a "signature verification error installation aborted" from the update.zip file I tried to install. I tried to install this a few times but I get the same error over and over. I guess the checksum is failing.

My next thought was if I can get a copy of the original stock DI update.zip file and place it on the SD card and do a manual "update" it might resolve the problem. But I can't find it anywhere.

So if anyone knows where I can get a copy of that file it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

*I know this is more of a Moto Droid site, but imo this is the absolute best place to get help with problems like this. Besides Team Android has to stick together and help out one another*

if a battery pull or a factory reset does not fix take it to vzw.

well he already tried to take it up there, but they were completely clueless.

he was also on the phone with VZW advanced techs and they were no help either.

He's out of a phone either way, I'm just trying to get him by until he can get another one (not for another month) or get the droid x when it comes out in july.

if its a factory problem (which it is) and he has warranty he needs to demand a working device. He may have to be flexible and get a droid 1 until later when the droid x release, but he needs to get vzw to get him a new device.

this is one of those times when i'll take good advice when it's given because you're absolutely right and I can't justify further action lol.

however if it was my phone i'd probably end up bricking it try to fix it and it wouldn't bother me too much cause i like the challenge and the journey is when you learn the most and eventually there will be as good support for the DI and there is for the moto droid.

thanks for all the advice, i feel kinda bad i couldn't help my friend out though.

i did try to use that file that returns the phone to stock but the phone wouldn't boot it.
