Hello I am Richard

Hello, I am Richard and I am new to this forum. I came here mainly to determine the best way to do application housekeeping on my motodroid. I have a lot of applications, of course, and so I need to keep many on the SD card but not installed so my phone will function properly. Also, I need to know what app to use to completely back up everything on my apps which includes the data files having histories and such. I think there is probably a way to reset the phone then restore certain applications so that it is as if the phone was never reset. In other words, in a chat program all the chat history is brought back when the app is restored. It would be nice if there were an app that let one choose the disposition of the many apps such as installed, uninstalled but still on the SD card for installation occasionally. What I am getting at is it would be nice to be able to keep the applications normally on the SD card, only installing them as needed.

Well, anything anyone can suggest will be helpful.

Thank you,

Richard

Hey Richard, my name is Brett! I think what you are looking for is something called titanium backup. You can download it from the market but you need to be rooted to use it but it does exactly what you want. It will literally restore all your conversations and apps with their data as if nothing happened. You just have to make sure when you reset to reroot and reinstall titanium backup so you can restore. You will also need to have the unknown sources check box checked (settings-> applications-> unknown sources). Hope this helps and enjoy your time here!

Also it stores the apps as backups which you can choose when and if you want to reinstall them. It stores the backups on your sd card so it sounds like a perfect fit!

Hey thanks, Brett, I now have a product that you recommend. It does what I want it to do, but I will need to root the phone which I have avoided. I teach technology in college and really want to do the root so I can mess with the ROMs and other things, but I have held off so I could still have the Verizon warranty. I suppose that is long over so... lol... hmmm... that leads to a need for root procedure and even ROM change procedure and recommendations on which way to proceed.

Hello Richard. I also have the OG Droid and still love it. I've been waiting since November for the next great Android phone to upgrade to, maybe just a little bit longer now to wait dancedroid. This is a great place to be as far as helpful advice and friendly "conversation". Welcome

Thanks, bhall, I am due an upgrade and am waiting too. It's OK though because I still love my phone.
