Headphone jack stops working until reboot ( rooted .596)

It seems like more often than not, unless I've just rebooted, my Droid X won't play sound through the headphone jack. I generally notice this when I stick it in my car dock (which is where I do most of my listening to music and audio books).

Does anyone else have this problem? It seems to have started after upgrading to the rooted .596 update.

I haven't found any sequence of events that causes the jack to stop working, and haven't found any settings that seem to bring it back to life without rebooting the phone.

Any ideas?

The phone is definitely seeing when I plug in my headphones; this is from dmesg:

<6>[100055.248260] cpcap spi1.0: New headset state: 2
<7>[100100.078582] turning off regulator
<6>[100107.184570] AUDIO_DRIVER:spkr1 = 0x800000, spkr2 = 0x20
<6>[100126.990936] cpcap spi1.0: Headset key event: old=0, new=0
<6>[100127.017761] cpcap spi1.0: New headset state: 0
<6>[100128.353912] AUDIO_DRIVER:spkr1 = 0x20, spkr2 = 0x0
<6>[100145.430145] cpcap spi1.0: New headset state: 2
<6>[100145.722595] AUDIO_DRIVER:spkr1 = 0x800000, spkr2 = 0x20

Is there a linux command I can run at the terminal to reset an audio device? Volume up/down buttons on the phone don't seem to make a difference.

I have this issue with stock Verizon push of 2.3.3 so it is not that build. Tried installing an audio mixer (why isn't one included by default?) but no joy. Fiddling with TTS in settings I tried to play a sample and *presto* sound was back. Seems to work until I pause out stop the music, or mute the phone.

Clearly this software, not hardware. Something turns that sound off until it is re-initialized. Why TTS does that but playing music doesn't I don't know.

Yeah, you're onto something there. I had music playing when Tasker did some TTS for a notification, and the music didn't start playing again. I fiddled around some, then I ran an action to have it speak some more text, and the music started playing again.
