Have two messaging services, how do I stop one?

I downloaded Handcent SMS since I like this better than the factory messaging app but now have a problem. Everytime I get a text I have to clear it from BOTH apps. Is there a way that I can disable the standard messaging app that comes factory on the phone and just use Handcent SMS?

Go into the stock message application and go to the settings and disable notifications.

^^^ Yes, that is the way to do it. In fact, if you find yourself with even more SMS apps, just go to the ones you don't want to use and disable the notifications.

Thanks guys, thats why I love this site, for the good answers!

Also, I did try search, searched for "disable messaging" and only came up with a battery life thread. I have had good luck with search other times though.

What you get from search definitely depends on the keywords you use. In this case, try "duplicate notifications". Sometimes it takes several attempts at finding the appropriate keywords.
