Running/gym is a good point, but it works pretty well for me with a BT headset. Actually running, though, I'd probably need an arm strap because it's too annoying in a pocket.

Otherwise, it's good mostly for younger kids you aren't ready to give a cell phone to.

I wouldn't say completely obsolete. I have 3. One stays in my glove box like others have said always hooked up to the car. One stays on my Bose sounddock. And my shuffle is for running cause I hate armbands or holding my phone. But most of the time if I'm using headphones, its connected to my gnex

I don't run when I exercise so the size of the phone doesn't bother me. And I have about 300 gigs of music uploaded to my Google music, which is just too much to worry about being on some device physically. Looks like we all mix and match to suit our lifestyles. It's just in my case my gnex fills all the roles.
