has anyone been successful using an mhl connector

I just got this droid maxx. I am trying to use an mhl cable with it.I cannot get it to connect. I have actually tried two different cables neither of them work. They both worked with a galaxy s4 so I know they are functioning. I haven't had any luck with this phone though. the phone works fine when I charge it. any suggestions?

I'm trying to connect to my Pioneer Appradio. It's strange I can't get the phone to recognize the hdmi cable in the port.

The new Droids do not support MHL. I use Chromecast which works great.

Doesn't work on mine. I did however get my arcade stick to work using a micro usb to female usb connector.
