gorilla glass ???

I bought a new droid bionic three weeks ago. While sitting at my desk, the phone slipped from my hand and hit the desk top shattering the glass.
When i purchased the phone i was told it had "gorilla glass" now to me that says "tough as nails" gorilla glass my ass! Neither verizon nor motorola will stand behind it.
Yea i know i should have had it in one of those hard rubber cases, which i did order, but come on, dropped 6 inches and does that. I've dropped my lap top further than that.
I'm having a local repair shop fix it (you break i fix) $120.00 but at least i get my new phone back and not a referb.
Very disappointing.

Gorilla glass is designed to be resistant to scratches. It will still shatter if you drop it on a hard surface.

exactly while gorilla glass is good at resisting scratches and being broken at the end of the day its still glass so its possible to break and scratch. All it takes is a short drop to hit just right to shatter it. Ive dropped my phone over 12 feet onto concrete and the glass didn't break.

to be quite honest your best bet is to either find a replacement screen on ebay and install it yourself or find a place that will replace the screen for you.

I have the og droid and many nights on drunken adventures have dropped my phone on concrete, ceramic tile, gravel and never broke my screen, now I had an incredible the when I got out the car had it in my lap and it fell to concrete it shattered

I have the original DInc and dropped my phone several times. It wasn't until two months ago that I finally cracked the screen.

Oh, and I could have been mistaken, but it was my understanding that gorilla glass was supposed to be much more resistant to cracking and shattering compared to regular glass, such that TV manufacturers were using it in LCD and plasma TVs. Because of its greater strength, the thickness could be reduced, reducing the weight as well. Screens made using gorilla glass would be stronger if the thickness was the same. They are using thinner thicknesses of screens, so while it is as strong as screens used to be, they are not stronger.
