Google Voice - questions and concerns

on the GV app on my Droid, in the Sync and Notifications tab --> i have the Synchronized Inbox, Inbox notifications and Vibrate/Light blink checked. should i check the Notifications via SMS? im confused as to what that does...

lets say Bobby texts me through my PHONE NUMBER, okay thats it its just in ChompSMS and normal. Now, if Bobby texts my GV number (responds to my text) then i will get a notification via SMS Popup APP..but if i have the Notifications via SMS checked in the GV APP, then i will get two? so should i leave that blank as is or what do you guys have or can clarify for me?

On the phone it's ok to do that, just don't do it in the set up on the Google Voice page.

I use GV everyday, hopefully this will help you clarify some settings. The way I have it set up in GV app on my droid eris is synchronize inbox, inbox notifications, vibrate, and light checked. Notification via SMS is not checked. So when someone send a txt message to your GV number, you will get a notification on your status bar via your GV app.

again, i do NOT plan on having my GV number as my regular phone number, nor for anyone to really know i have it...its just there and here for me if i need it and whatnot. so unless it gets used, its going to be by ME and not by any incoming calls or texts..

Interesting but that's your call to make. I only use GV -- no one has my VZW number. Most features are only of benefit if people are actually calling via your GV number.

also, the sync and notifications...if i uncheck that on my Phone in Settings, does that mean if i delete it on my phone it will NOT be deleted from my computer GV Gmail profile?

I think you won't get messages if you disable sync (not 100% sure and I haven't tested it). Sync is what enabled us to get faster delivery.

LASTLY (SO SORRY) i checked my Gmail GV settings on my computer and this is what i have: Alert me when I have new voicemails (checked to my e-mail), send a text SMS message to mobile (checked), and text forwarding to my e-mail (checked). So should i uncheck everything so it just stays on my phone and i only get my voicemail notifications sent to my Gmail account (everything else on my phone)?

If that's what you want. I just have GV notify me on the Droid itself via the notification bar, notification sound and LED. "Should" is up to you.

i also have my Gmail and regular Email set up on my phone, but i rarely actually get the notifications when i receive e-mails i actually have to open the icon and have them load to see...do you recommend any app for that?

You're sure you set up notifications in the Email app and Gmail? Go into the settings for each app.

just to clarify like you said, my GV account/number isnt associated or actually linked to my Gmail profile/account..its on its own webpage correct?

It's definitely linked. IIRC, it's not visible to anyone though.

You probably don't want to, based on the context of your post. This checkbox will set GV to notify you via SMS to your VZW number. Those messages will count against your package or, if you don't have one, you will be billed for those SMS messages. It's really a judgment call left up to the user depending on his/her intent. There's no one-size-fits-all configuration for GV. How it's set up depends greatly on how you specifically intend to use it.
