We told you not to sweat it out too much about getting a free netbook because they are making 60,000 of the things. Now we are bringing you the news that these netbooks have already shipped and arrived in some cases. Google certainly didn't waste anytime in getting these things out there to anxious people. Talk about a great 'free' Christmas present.

Some luck recipients have already taken a few snapshots and videos of their CR48's. The box is pretty barren including just the bare essentials: One laptop, one battery, one cord and a large single piece of paper with instructions. The recipients did not receive any type of email or notification that they would be receiving one - it simply showed up at the door.

So, keep your fingers crossed! You can read the full article here: Google CR-48 laptops already arriving to some individuals

I'll be honest, I actually really want one of these. Not just for home, but to try out at work. I think these things could be very useable in schools (I work for a school district) and assuming the cost would be low since its open source and a netbook, would be great student machines for basic internet only use.

I hope I get mine.

I hope that I get mine. I am looking at these also for work. I think that these would be good for the newspaper industry for their reporters and photographers to send in things from the field. Also this would be good to give me something to keep in the car when I don't want to carry my full size laptop but still need to access all of our web based admin services.

Man, I want one bad. It would get heavy use with me, mostly for personal use but I'd try to use it at work too.

I wonder how long the time period was between signing up and receiving the laptop...?

I'd like to know this, too. I only heard about the program early yesterday afternoon when it was posted here on DF. I immediately signed up. When did they start accepting applications?

man i really hope i can get my hands on one of these...i would really love to be a teste for googles new OS
