GMail sync

I was able to sync my contacts with gmail from my Blackberry and then to my Droid. I didn't like my gmail account username, so I created a 2nd gmail account. I want to sync my gmail contact list with my new gmail userid/account, but it doesn't work. My new userid/account doesn't show any contacts in gmail. My phone has all my contacts. I want to delete the 1st gmail userid/account but want to make sure that it doesn't delete all the contacts on my phone. Do I need to be concered about them getting deleted? Any suggestions?

I had to reset and start from scratch to switch the Primary E-mail address.

I ended up exporting my contact list into a .cvs - then imported into my new gmail account.

I then deleted my original gmail account as I only had it for a few days. Now, on my Droid, I cannot delete the original gmail account, it gives me an error that I have to reset my phone back to factory settings. Anyone know a way around this?
