Gmail not syncing/notifying

It has been doing this forever, I can go on my computer and have 3 new emails today, when I receive an email the gmail app never notifies me and often emails don't show up at all. Also when I am looking at the accounts section it says I have 13 unread emails, yet none appear in my inbox. I have a droid 3 and I'm running 5.6.890. Can anyone help me?

Do you have "Email Notifications" checked under the gmail settings?

go to setting-apps- find gmail force stop it then clear data then resync that should fix the issue.. make sure notifications are on

Thanks for the help, apparently there was syncing issues. I fixed it though.
