gmail app freezing on droid2

lately any time i attempt to write an e-mail in the gmail app it locks up, causing me to have to force close it.

even after the force close, the phone will act up until i reboot it.

i tried re-installing the gmail app with no luck.

has anyone else run into this? any ideas on what else i can try?

update: it seemed like the issue might have been with predictive text. sure enough, once i turned off the "show suggestions" and "auto-crrect errors" options, as well as clearing the learned words for good measure, the problem has stopped.

so, now the questions is, what has gone wrong with the predictive text and how might i correct that issue?
